The Movement for the Emancipation of Nigeria (MEN), Plateau State Chapter, expresses deep concern over the silence of the Plateau State Government regarding the damning allegations of mismanagement and possible diversion of funds meant for the state burial of Late Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni.Despite the serious concerns raised in our initial statement on February 27, 2025, the government has neither launched an investigation nor made public its position on the matter.
This inaction is unacceptable, and we refuse to allow this issue to be swept under the carpet.We are therefore issuing a 7-day ultimatum, starting today, March 16, 2025, for the Plateau State Government to take decisive action, including:Ordering a full-scale investigation into the alleged ₦1.7 billion burial fund.Auditing and publicly disclosing how the funds were allocated and spent.
Holding accountable all members of the 23-man burial committee responsible for the failures.If the government fails to act within this timeframe, MEN will take the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a full investigation into the financial misconduct and mismanagement surrounding the burial.
This is not just about Late Gen. Useni’s burial—it is about transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of public funds.
The people of Plateau State deserve answers, and we will not relent in ensuring that justice is served.We call on civil society organizations, the media, and all well-meaning Nigerians to join us in demanding accountability.
