Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has suspended the Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara, following allegations made by the Kano State Hisbah Board.
Plateau News reports that the suspension is intended to allow for a thorough investigation to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the state’s administration.
The decision was announced in a statement signed by Malam Bala Ibrahim, Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, on Saturday.
This move follows Sankara’s arrest by the Kano State Hisbah in connection with an alleged encounter involving a married woman in an uncompleted building.
Abba Sufi, the Director General of the Hisbah Board, confirmed Sankara’s arrest, stating that Hisbah officers had been tracking him after receiving multiple complaints of his alleged misconduct.
Nasiru Bulama, the husband of the married woman, had lodged complaints with the Kano State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing Sankara of engaging in illicit activities with his wife, who is the mother of two children.
In response, Sankara issued a statement on Friday night, denying the allegations and calling them false, baseless, and malicious.
He claimed that the accusations were part of a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image. The investigation is expected to clarify the situation and determine the next steps regarding the commissioner’s status.
