Recent speculations have surfaced suggesting that Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang might be considering a defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These rumors have been fueled by his visible collaborations with President Bola Tinubu and certain APC figures.
However, Governor Mutfwang has categorically dismissed these claims. In a recent interview, he emphasized that his engagements with the federal government are solely aimed at advancing the interests of Plateau State.
He stated, “My association with President Tinubu is for the good of the Plateau people and should not be misconstrued as political realignment.”
Further addressing the issue, Mutfwang’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, labeled the defection rumors as the handiwork of mischief-makers intent on sowing discord.
He clarified that the governor remains a steadfast member of the PDP and has no intentions of switching allegiance.
The APC’s Plateau State chapter recently initiated an investigation into one of its chieftains, Saleh Zazzaga, for endorsing Governor Mutfwang and President Tinubu for the 2027 elections.
This move underscores the political tensions and the significance of party loyalty in the region.
