The final match of the Renewed Hope Peace and Unity Inter-Tribal Football Competition was successfully concluded today first January 2026 with a thrilling encounter between Pyem Youth and Ron-Kulere Youth, marking a significant step toward promoting peace and unity among communities.
The event commenced with opening remarks delivered by the Chairman of the Plateau Development Association Network (PDAN) Plateau Central, represented by its Secretary, Mr. Shikgura Dangwan. He congratulated the convener of the competition, Comrade Walshak Kefas Danjuma, describing the initiative as timely and impactful in fostering peaceful coexistence among different tribes.
An opening prayer was offered by the representative of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Gindiri Chapter, led by Reverend Emmanuel Disa.
In his address, the Chairman of the Football Committee, Engr. Fukji Gorip, expressed gratitude to committee members and stakeholders for their dedication and support, which ensured the smooth organization of the tournament.
The convener, Comrade Walshak Kefas Danjuma, also welcomed spectators and dignitaries, appreciated the communities for turning out to support the programme.
A representative of the Member representing Mangu North East Constituency, through his Senior Legislative Aide, conveyed goodwill messages and support for the initiative.
The final match kicked off at 4:10 pm. Ron-Kulere Youth took the lead with a goal at 4:30 pm and maintained a 1–0 advantage going into halftime at 4:45 pm.
The second half resumed at 4:50 pm, and Ron-Kulere Youth extended their lead with a second goal at 5:15 pm, sealing a 2–0 victory as the match ended at 5:30 pm.
Several dignitaries graced the occasion, including representatives of GNI, Mallam Mahadi; Squadron Commander Panshak Zumka, Commander FOB Gyembus; and Comrade D. G. Jipal, Personal Assistant to Yari Kumchi, who donated ₦50,000 in support of the tournament.
Other goodwill messages came from Legislative Aides representing Mangu North East and Kanke LGAs, CAN Gindiri, JNI representatives, Teacher David Bashir, Hon. Pakachi, and Hon. Elisha Bitrus Shehu, former Commissioner for Environment, Plateau State, who donated ₦10,000 each to the participating teams and the organizing committee.
Awards and gifts were presented to outstanding performers, including the highest goal scorers, best goalkeeper, best coach, most disciplined team, best player, and ball boys.
Trophies and cash prizes were also awarded, with Ron-Kulere Youth emerging as champions and receiving ₦50,000, Pyem Youth finishing second with ₦30,000, and Rumada Youth taking third place with ₦20,000.
The tournament ended peacefully, with a closing prayer offered by the CAN representative, reinforcing the event’s core message of peace, unity, and inter-tribal harmony.
