APC STAKEHOLDERS BACK YILWATDA FOR CONTINUITY AHEAD OF MARCH 28 NATIONAL CONVENTION
Ahead of the March 28 National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), concerned stakeholders within the party have formally endorsed the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to continue in office.
The endorsement was announced on Thursday in Abuja by the APC Concerned Stakeholders Forum during a press conference. The forum urged the National Executive Committee (NEC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, party elders, and all critical stakeholders to uphold the existing zoning arrangement in the interest of unity, equity, and justice within the party.
Prof. Yilwatda, from Plateau State in the North Central zone, emerged as APC National Chairman during the party’s NEC meeting on July 24, 2025. Political observers widely viewed his emergence as a strategic move to return the position to the North Central zone, where it had previously been, following the tenure of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje from the North-West, who held the position between August 3, 2023, and June 27, 2025.
Addressing journalists, the convener of the forum, Dr. Dominic Alancha, praised Yilwatda’s leadership, noting that the party has recorded significant stability, improved internal reconciliation, strengthened party administration, increased membership drive, and better strategic positioning for future electoral success under his stewardship.
Dr. Alancha emphasized that zoning remains a critical stabilizing mechanism that promotes inclusiveness, fairness, national balance, and a strong sense of belonging among the diverse components of the party and the federation. He stressed that retaining the current zoning arrangement is essential for sustaining unity and cohesion within the APC.
He also declared his intention to contest for the position of Deputy National Publicity Secretary at the upcoming national convention, with the aim of strengthening the party’s communication machinery ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“As our party prepares for its 2026 National Convention, we consider it patriotic and timely to clearly state our collective position on key issues that will foster stability, unity, and seamless electoral success for the APC,” he said.
The APC Concerned Stakeholders Forum reaffirmed its unequivocal support for the retention of the current zoning formula as adopted and practiced by the party, describing it as a vital instrument for sustaining balance, fairness, and national cohesion within the APC.
