Akeredolu’s Former Deputy, Agboola Ajayi Wins Ondo PDP Gubernatorial Primary

Agboola Ajayi, a former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, has secured victory in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary.

Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the deputy governor of Bayelsa and chair of the electoral committee overseeing the primary poll, disclosed the results on Thursday in Akure, the state capital.

Ewhrudjakpo revealed that Agboola secured 264 votes out of the 621 votes cast during the contest, making him the winner of the primary. His closest rival, former House of Representatives member Kolade Akinjo, received 157 votes.

Ajayi’s victory comes after his tenure as deputy governor to the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in his first term, during which they had a falling out due to irreconcilable differences.

Despite attempts by the Ondo State House of Assembly to impeach Ajayi during the crisis with Akeredolu, their efforts ultimately failed.
