Kanke, Plateau State – The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has flagged off the construction of a dam in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the project as a major step toward improving water security, agricultural productivity, and rural development.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Prof. Yilwatda said the project is designed to provide a sustainable source of clean water for domestic use while supporting irrigation farming to enhance food production and improve the livelihoods of local communities.
He noted that access to reliable water infrastructure remains critical to economic growth, especially in rural areas where farming serves as the primary means of livelihood. According to him, the dam will enable year-round farming, reduce dependence on seasonal rainfall, and contribute to food security in Plateau State and beyond.
The APC National Chairman emphasized that the project reflects a commitment to delivering impactful infrastructure that addresses the needs of the people and promotes sustainable development.
Community leaders and residents welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the dam would transform agricultural activities, create employment opportunities, and improve the overall standard of living in Kanke and surrounding communities.
The project is expected to significantly boost water supply for household consumption while providing a reliable source of water for irrigation, thereby strengthening agricultural production and economic development across the area.
