Breaking News: Jim Ovia, Founder of Zenith Bank, Appointed Chairman of Student Loan Fund by Tinubu. President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of Mr. Jim Ovia, CFR, a renowned banker and businessman, as the Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
This announcement was made in a statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, on Friday.
Ngelale highlighted the President’s confidence in Mr. Ovia’s vast experience and professional standing, expecting him to leverage these qualities to advance the crucial vision of ensuring that no Nigerian student’s pursuit of higher education is hindered by financial constraints.
“Mr. Ovia is the founder of one of Nigeria’s leading banks and a respected business leader, with a wealth of contributions towards nurturing and empowering young Nigerians.”
“He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School and holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Louisiana.
“The National Student Loan Programme is a pivotal intervention aimed at ensuring sustainable higher education and functional skill development for all Nigerian students and youths.
“As the implementing institution of this innovation, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund demands excellence and professionals of the highest caliber to guide and manage its affairs.
“The President is confident that Mr. Ovia will leverage his extensive experience and professional stature to advance the crucial vision of ensuring that no Nigerian student’s pursuit of higher education is hindered by financial constraints.
Additionally, the President aims to ensure that Nigerian youths, regardless of their backgrounds, have access to higher education and skills that will enable them to become productive members of society and key contributors to the knowledge-based global economy of this century,” the statement concluded.
