President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to leave Abuja today for the United Kingdom, beginning a two-week vacation as part of his annual leave.
This information was revealed in a statement on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Onanuga, the two-week period will be used as a working vacation and a retreat for the President to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.
The statement further noted that the President will return to Nigeria after the leave has concluded.
In the meantime, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has criticized the 30-day National Youth Conference that was recently announced by President Bola Tinubu during his Independence Day address.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA condemned the proposed conference, labeling it a wasteful endeavor designed to distract young people from the administration’s failures.
The group argued that the government is focusing on superficial attempts to engage with the youth while ignoring more critical issues.
They referred to the conference as “forum shopping,” meant to create an illusion of youth inclusion, while in reality, the government has failed to address the key challenges faced by young Nigerians, such as poor infrastructure, economic stagnation, and high unemployment.
HURIWA criticized the conference as a “cash-guzzling charade” that is unlikely to produce meaningful outcomes, urging the government to concentrate on solving the urgent problems affecting the youth instead of organizing another “talk shop.”
