FG announced strategy to Create 2.5M Jobs in 2024. The Labour Employment Enhancement Programme (LEEP), an initiative by the Nigerian Federal Government, is set to create 2.5 million job opportunities.
This announcement was made by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, during the pre-inaugural ceremony for LEEP held in Abuja on Thursday.
The minister underscored the significance of empowering the Nigerian workforce with the necessary tools and opportunities to excel in the digital era, emphasizing the rapidly changing global landscape.
She outlined that the Labour Employment Enhancement Programme (LEEP) aims to achieve objectives such as zero hunger, zero poverty, economic growth, and the creation of decent jobs through six strategic initiatives.
“The vision of LEEP is to train and equip 2.5 million individuals. In Nigeria, youth unemployment remains a pressing concern, with over 13 million young people currently without jobs,” she stated.
According to recent statistics, initiatives like LEEP play a vital role in providing young people with access to training, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurial support, thereby addressing the challenge of youth unemployment and promoting social inclusion.
The minister highlighted that LEEP represents a comprehensive strategy to tackle key workforce challenges, including job creation, skills development, and migration control.
Meanwhile, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has expressed alarm over the proliferation of fake job advertisements within the oil and gas sectors across West Africa.
