The Federal Government has appointed 15 new Assistant Comptrollers General (ACGs) for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and promoted an additional 95 officers to the rank of Comptroller as part of a broad promotion initiative involving 13,977 immigration personnel.
At the decoration ceremony held in Abuja, Ahmed Ja’afaru, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), announced that five officers received special promotions for their exceptional contributions, including one officer who completed a cost-saving project for the Service.

Ja’afaru emphasized the historical significance of this promotion exercise, noting that many officers had remained stagnant in their positions for up to 10 years due to a lack of vacancies. He credited the current leadership under the Minister of Interior for resolving this issue of stagnation.
Kemi Nandap, Comptroller General of the Immigration Service (CGIS), praised the government for its commitment to career development within the NIS, stating that these promotions mark the end of stagnation in the Service. She acknowledged the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board’s efforts in ensuring a fair and transparent promotion process.
The promotion initiative saw 6,697 officers move from Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI2) to ACG, while 7,280 personnel were promoted from Immigration Assistant II (IA2) to Inspector of Immigration (II).
