The Federal Government has announced that Rivers State will no longer receive monthly funds from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
This decision, confirmed by Bawa Mokwa, the spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), follows a court order related to the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Mokwa clarified that no state has yet received October 2024 FAAC revenue but emphasized that the Federal Government would respect the court’s directive concerning Rivers State. He stated:
“The October 2024 FAAC has not been distributed yet. However, the Federal Government will obey the court order on the matter of Rivers State allocation,” as reported by *Daily Post*.
This development coincides with the escalating conflict between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The court order, issued by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Abuja Federal High Court, mandates the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the OAGF, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank to withhold funds from Rivers State until Governor Fubara resubmits the state budget to the legally recognized House of Assembly.
The court’s decision effectively freezes access to funds from the Consolidated Revenue Fund and Federation Account, further complicating the political and fiscal dynamics in the state.
