The atmosphere was tense as flames engulfed the Mundubawa country home of former Governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau.
The fire, which broke out on Sunday night, ravaged the sitting rooms belonging to his second wife, Halima.
Dr. Sule Ya’u Sule, Media Adviser to Malam Shekarau, confirmed the incident, stating that the fire originated from the inner kitchen of the house on Sunday evening. The kitchen was located on the ground floor of the multi-million naira mansion.
“We thank God that the fire only affected one of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s living rooms, and the men of the State Fire Service successfully extinguished the fire,” stated Dr. Sule Ya’u Sule, the Media Adviser to Malam Shekarau.
Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, the spokesperson of the State Fire Service, confirmed the incident when contacted.
However, he declined to comment further on the cause of the inferno, stating that efforts were still underway to ensure the fire did not spread to other areas.
“This is the second time the residence will be gutted by fire. In 2018, a fire gutted the building after an electrical spark that affected two rooms,” he added.
