Veteran Nollywood actor and movie producer, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has shared his perspective on monogamy.
In the latest episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, Kanayo stated that he believes monogamy is not inherent to African culture, as reported by Plateau News.
Veteran Nollywood actor and movie producer Kanayo O. Kanayo has shared his views on monogamy, emphasizing that it is an imported concept and not part of African tradition.
Speaking on ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, the 62-year-old actor expressed his belief that polygamy aligns more with African culture.
“I don’t believe in one wife. It is not our culture. It is not our tradition. It is not who we are. These are imported things,” Kanayo stated.
He also noted that he had never encountered the concept of divorce until he moved to Lagos from the South East, stating that an Igbo man would typically prefer to remain in the marriage rather than seek a divorce.
“I never knew anything about divorce until we came to Lagos. The Igbo man prefers to die in the marriage than divorcing,” he said.
Despite his views, Kanayo himself is married to one woman, Nneka Onyekwere.
Additionally, Kanayo expressed concerns about the film industry, highlighting the desperation of some individuals, particularly women, who lack talent but are eager to act.
He suggested that those who are desperate to join the industry without the requisite talent should consider pursuing business instead, as acting is an in-built skill.
