The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Thursday that it will ease its 18-year minimum admission age requirement for the 2024/2025 academic session.
In a statement from JAMB’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, the board has given institutions the option to admit candidates who meet the necessary qualifications and will turn 16 by August 31, 2025.
JAMB clarified that this change does not compromise the academic standards or infringe on individual institutions’ admission policies.
Benjamin emphasized that while institutions are still free to set a minimum age requirement of 16 years, those that are willing may admit students who will meet this age threshold by the specified date.
The statement further requested that institutions submit the names of eligible candidates who will turn 16 between January 1 and August 31, 2025, for consideration.
This list should be provided no later than one week from the issuance of JAMB’s letter to ensure that no candidates receive disproportionate benefits toward the end of the 2024/2025 admission cycle.
