The attention of the Ngas Youth Movement, Global, has been drawn to a defamatory comment made by one Twa Ronald on the Rhythm 93.7 Saturday’s political program “Viewpoint with Samson Omale.”
The Ngas person has demonstrated a high sense of humor in promoting peace and peaceful coexistence among the many ethnic groups residents within its domains and lately, its patience has been tried on many occasions through derogatory comments since one of Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi became the House of Representative member of Pankshin, Kanke, Kanam Federal Constituency dated to 2019.
We wonder if only the Ngas person that has the monopoly of PKK as a federal constituency that most often Gagdi actions and inactions are accrued to the Ngas persons, .
But for the avoidance of doubt, there are no constitutional provisions that stop the likes of Gagdi from Contesting elections for whatever reasons, and the Ngas persons can not decide for the entire PKK on who to support and who not to support since politics is a game of interest.
We as the youth arm state in strong terms as follows ;
- The revered youth organ of Ngas nation wouldn’t have dignified the said Twa Ronald but cautioned him and his like for found pleasure in inciting comments that are capable of causing a rift within ethnic groups. Such uncouth acts are not entendem with the practices and principles of a Plateau person.
- Secondly, the youth arm statement is a clear message to not only Twa Ronald but to his cohorts who find pleasure in taking advantage of the social media handles to cause an ethnic and social rift among the various ethnic groups. Ngas Youth Movement will not condone such reckless, irresponsible, and uncouth display on its people and land henceforth.
- We further caution the youths from taking advantage of the public space to spit roasted comments but rather see the new media for positive engagement and meaningful conversations for the good of society.
-Using derogatory language to describe an entire ethnic group because of politics has never been and will never be the way to play the game of politics. It is, therefore, unacceptable and reflects poor political character. It was essential to engage in respectful and constructive dialogue, even when disagreeing.
-As a body, we demand Twa Ronald to freshly retract his statement and issue a public apology within 24 hours to the Ngas people he so distastefully insulted and stereotyped.
Failure to tender an unaltered apology will cause the youth body to contain.
Finally, we would like to caution the general public, most importantly the youth, on such disrespectful comments on any tribe while engaging in public space and politics to promote inclusivity, respect, and togetherness. A thorough political knowledge and principles should be well established for better understanding that will ensure our mutual respect for one another.
