NORTHERN CAN REJECTS TRUMP’S CLAIM THAT KILLING OF CHRISTIANS IN NIGERIA HAS ENDED
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), alongside the Ecumenical Synods of Bishops, Archbishops, Apostles, and Senior Clergy, has rejected claims by United States President Donald Trump that American military action has brought an end to the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
In a statement, the Christian leaders maintained that attacks, kidnappings, and killings continue to occur in several parts of the country, insisting that the security situation remains a major concern despite ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and other forms of violence.
The groups argued that only Nigerians, particularly those directly affected by insecurity, are in a position to accurately assess the realities on the ground. They noted that many communities continue to experience violent attacks, displacement, and loss of lives.
While acknowledging past support from the United States in the fight against terrorism, the Christian leaders stressed that the security challenges facing Nigeria have not been fully resolved. They called for stronger action by the Nigerian government, sustained international cooperation, and practical interventions to protect vulnerable communities.
The groups also urged authorities to address the root causes of insecurity, strengthen the nation’s security architecture, and ensure that all citizens can live in peace regardless of their faith or ethnicity.
