The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has appointed Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere as its new spokesperson.
According to reports, the appointment was endorsed by NEF’s Convener and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Ango Abdullahi, in recognition of Professor Jiddere’s extensive expertise and unwavering dedication to championing the interests of Northern Nigeria.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Al-Amin Daggash, Chairman of the Forum’s Management Board. The statement described Jiddere as a highly accomplished academic with a remarkable track record of excellence and service.
Born in Jalingo, Taraba State, in 1965, Professor Jiddere has an impressive academic background:
- Primary Education: Muhammadu Nya Primary School, Jalingo
- Secondary Education: Marmara Government Secondary School, Wukari (1979–1984)
- Tertiary Education:
- College of Preliminary Studies, Yola (1984–1986)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano (1986–1989)
- Master’s Degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the University of Jos (1990–1993)
- PhD in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano
Professor Jiddere began his academic career in 1993 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Bayero University, Kano. He has since risen through the ranks to become a Professor of International Relations. Additionally, he completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assignment with the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu between 1989 and 1990.
Professor Jiddere succeeds Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, who now serves as Director of NGOs and CSOs at the Northern Elders Forum.
In his acceptance speech, Jiddere expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing his commitment to the Forum’s goals of advocating for the development of Northern Nigeria while fostering unity across the country.
“I am honored to accept this appointment as the spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum,” Jiddere stated. “The Forum remains a non-partisan platform dedicated to articulating the collective aspirations of Northern Nigeria and contributing to the progress of our nation. I seek Allah’s guidance and protection as I carry out this responsibility.”
The Northern Elders Forum reiterated its non-partisan principles and pledged to collaborate with stakeholders across the country to promote Nigeria’s growth and stability.
