PSC Appoints Peter Opara As New FCT Commissioner Of Police

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the deployment of CP Peter Opara as the new Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

This was confirmed in a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations for the PSC.

Opara succeeds CP Benneth Igwe, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police and assigned to Zone 7 Abuja.

Prior to this, Opara held positions as CP in the Force Secretary’s office and Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Finance in Imo State.

He has extensive experience, including serving as a Personal Assistant to former PSC Chairman, IGP Mike Okiro (Rtd), and various roles in legal and operational areas across Nigeria.

In addition, the PSC has approved the appointment of CP Festus Eribo as the new substantive Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, replacing CP Miller Gagere Dantawaye.

Eribo holds a law degree from the University of Calabar and has served in numerous roles, including Area Commander in Lagos and Oyo States and Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Kogi State.

He was also previously the substantive Commissioner of Police in Taraba State. The commission has further confirmed postings of Commissioners to Abia, Lagos, and Ebonyi States.
