Mrs. Igiebor, the woman who tore her husband’s passport, has finally spoken out about the reasons behind her actions. According to her, the couple had been dealing with ongoing family issues long before they returned to Nigeria from Europe.
Igiebor, who is a content creator known for sharing videos about her husband and children on TikTok, explained her side of the story in a video released on Monday.
She stated, “This issue has been going on for a long time. And I had to do what I did. Don’t just look at my actions alone. I’m not a mad woman. I have gone through so many things. I have my own reasons.”
Mrs. Igiebor further explained her actions, stating that her decision to tear her husband’s passport stemmed from long-standing family issues. She expressed that if she had done the same thing in Europe, it would have caused even more stress for her husband, which she wanted to avoid.
She said, “What if I had done this thing in Europe, where we came from? I don’t want him to go through much stress, which is why I did it in Nigeria. So many people at the airport that day saw me acting.
It has been a family issue all the time. My husband even cannot speak about it. I suffered with him, and just like that, his family wants my suffering to be shattered.”
Mrs. Igiebor also revealed that her actions were motivated by a desire to prevent her husband from returning to Europe, as she has endured significant pain over the years.
She mentioned that despite her husband buying her an iPhone to calm her down, she has not been able to forget the pain she has gone through and has only been pretending to have moved past it.
She concluded by apologizing to Nigerians who were upset by her actions and to Nigerian immigration authorities.
Mrs. Igiebor elaborated on the reasons behind her actions, expressing deep frustration over her husband’s neglect in favor of his family. She described him as a “mother’s boy” and “best brother” to his siblings, which, according to her, left her suffering and feeling unsupported.
She emphasized that her actions were a way to communicate the pain she has been enduring, especially after having three children.
Igiebor also addressed those calling for her arrest, stating that she is ready to be held accountable for her actions. She urged her husband to come forward and share his side of the story, implying that the situation was more complex than what was visible in the viral video of her tearing his passport.
The incident, which occurred at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, has prompted the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to launch an investigation.
The NIS’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, confirmed that the service is looking into the matter, particularly because the destruction of a Nigerian passport is a serious offence under Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended). The act prescribes penalties for willful destruction of Nigerian travel documents.
The NIS emphasized its commitment to upholding the Immigration Act and protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s legal and diplomatic instruments.
