The Senate has concurred with the House of Representatives on the bill seeking the establishment of the Federal College of Education, Dengi-Kanam, bringing the proposed institution a step closer to becoming a reality.
The development was announced by the Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, PhD, OON, who described it as another landmark achievement for the constituency.
According to Gagdi, the bill, which had earlier been passed by the House of Representatives, was unanimously considered and approved by the Senate through its first, second and third readings in a single sitting. The legislation now awaits the assent of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to become law.
The lawmaker recalled that the former Federal College of Education, Pankshin, was upgraded to the Federal University of Education, Pankshin through a bill he sponsored in the House of Representatives. Following presidential approval, the university has commenced operations with a substantive Vice-Chancellor already in office.
He explained that the proposed Federal College of Education in Dengi is intended to replace the institution that was upgraded to a university, thereby expanding access to teacher education in the constituency.
Gagdi also disclosed that another strategic bill seeking the establishment of the Nigerian Navy Basic and Technical Institute in Kanke Local Government Area is making significant legislative progress and is advancing towards its third reading.
According to him, the proposed institute will provide both basic and technical education for military and civilian students, create employment opportunities for young people, strengthen manpower development, and enhance security presence in the constituency.
Describing the two bills as transformational, Gagdi congratulated the people of Pankshin, Kanam, and Kanke on what he called a new era of educational and institutional development.
He expressed appreciation to the people of PKK Federal Constituency for their continued support and confidence in his leadership, assuring them of his commitment to attracting more federal projects and delivering meaningful dividends of democracy.
The lawmaker said the latest legislative milestones reaffirm his resolve to pursue policies and projects that will promote education, youth empowerment, and sustainable development across Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam.
