Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will miss Napoli’s Coppa Italia first-round match against Modena at 8:15 p.m. today, August 10. Osimhen’s future at Napoli remains uncertain amid intense transfer speculation.
Despite earning £325,000 per week at the club, Osimhen has been training individually at the club’s sports center and has not featured in any pre-season friendlies this summer.
In December, Victor Osimhen signed a new contract with Napoli that includes a €130 million release clause. However, none of his suitors have been willing to trigger this clause. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), one of Osimhen’s serious suitors, has yet to offer more than €100 million for the 25-year-old Nigerian international.
Chelsea attempted to include Osimhen in a deal involving Romelu Lukaku, but the striker refused a loan move to Stamford Bridge and also declined to take a pay cut to secure the move.
This situation has left Osimhen with limited options. Reports from Italy suggest he is waiting for a renewed offer from PSG or a serious proposal from Saudi Arabia.
Osimhen joined Napoli in 2020 from Lille for a club-record fee of over €70 million and has since been the club’s talisman. His contract with Napoli is set to expire on June 30, 2026.
