President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Nigerian teachers in celebration of World Teachers Day.
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to implementing policies that would improve the welfare and working conditions of teachers, acknowledging their critical role in the development of children and the growth of the nation.
Speaking in Abuja on Saturday, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Tinubu addressed the theme “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.
” He assured that his government would make teachers’ welfare and quality education a priority, emphasizing their significance in empowering women, reducing poverty, and promoting peace and unity in the country.
Tinubu also urged teachers to continually enhance their skills and knowledge to provide quality education to students.
He highlighted the importance of teacher education in equipping educators with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to excel in their profession.
“Competencies and professionalism,” Tinubu noted, “are vital for certification, enabling teachers to perform their tasks effectively and meet professional standards through continuous training and retraining.”
