President Bola Tinubu has expressed concern over the recent flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State, which he described as the worst in decades.
In response to the disaster, Tinubu directed relevant agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to provide immediate assistance to those affected.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President conveyed his sympathy to the victims and assured Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum of the federal government’s commitment to mobilizing resources to support the state in managing the aftermath of the flood.
The flood, caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam, has displaced thousands of residents and damaged key infrastructure, including the Post Office and Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Tinubu extended his condolences to families who lost lives and property and called for the immediate evacuation of people from the affected areas.
The President reaffirmed the federal government’s readiness to collaborate with Borno State to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of those impacted by the disaster.
