Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello appeared at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, addressing charges filed by the anti-corruption agency.
Meanwhile, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma expressed confidence in his integrity, stating he has no fear of future EFCC investigations.
Bello, who arrived at the EFCC office in a black Hilux vehicle accompanied by his legal team, presented himself voluntarily.
This appearance follows a hearing on November 14, where the EFCC sought an adjournment for its fresh case against the former governor, citing the 30-day timeframe for the summons as still active.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma addressed speculations about his tenure and potential scrutiny by the EFCC after leaving office. Speaking after the Feast of Christ the King Mass at the Government House Chapel in Owerri, Uzodimma declared his confidence in his administration’s record.
“I will leave office a free man, sleep with my two eyes closed without being afraid of anybody, including the EFCC,” Uzodimma stated.
He encouraged anyone with evidence of misconduct during his tenure to come forward, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to prosperity, infrastructure, and dignity for Imo State.
The EFCC has intensified its focus on public officeholders, recently apprehending former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on allegations of misappropriating ₦1.3 trillion. This development highlights the agency’s efforts to hold leaders accountable and recover misused public funds.
The contrasting narratives of Bello and Uzodimma underscore the growing scrutiny on Nigerian political leaders.
While Bello’s case remains under investigation, Uzodimma’s proactive declaration of integrity sets a tone for transparency and accountability in governance. Nigerians will continue to watch how these cases unfold, reflecting broader efforts to combat corruption in public office.
