APC Forum Endorses Mangu LGA For Plateau 2027 Governorship, Says Move Crucial For Electoral Success

The Forum of Former Local Government Area (LGA) Secretaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, has issued a strong call for the party to zone its 2027 gubernatorial candidacy to Mangu Local Government Area.

A statement, signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Hon. Hon. Danbong N. Nanbol and a copy made available to journalists in Jos on thursday stated that the resolution followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders, and also hinged on a firm belief that the move was strategic and crucial for the party’s unity and electoral success come 2027.

According to the Forum, the call was more than just a political request, but a clarion call for fairness, strategic thinking, and sustainable development.

By rallying behind Mangu LGA, the Forum strongly believed that the APC can build a broad-based coalition that will secure victory in 2027 and usher in a new era of progress and unity for all citizens of Plateau State.

The statement further read in part: “Arising from the meeting of the forum held today, Thursday, 4 Sept. 2025, our endorsement is strongly predicated on the following points.

“Unwavering Loyalty and Electoral Strength:

Mangu LGA has consistently proven to be a bedrock of support for the APC and democratic governance in Plateau State. As one of the most populous local government areas, its voters have repeatedly demonstrated unity and delivered significant electoral outcomes.

“Therefore, nominating a candidate from Mangu is not just a reward for this loyalty but a strategic decision to harness a proven vote-rich area.

“Political Contributions:

Mangu LGA remains one of the largest and most populous LGAs in Plateau State that has consistently demonstrated its loyalty, unity, and electoral strength in support of democratic processes and governance.

“In consideration of the fact that the serving governor is coming from that axis, it would only be in the strategic interest of the party to zone its candidate there and with a view to complete the eight-year tenure as is the tradition with other LGAs, eg. Dariye, from Bokkos; Da Jonah David Jang, from Jos South and the Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong from Shendam LGA, all of whom have completed their eight year term without any disruption.

“The traditional zoning arrangement will be distorted if the APC candidate is taken away from Mangu, a reality that may leave behind some deep-seated feeling of dissatisfaction and possibly, resentment of an over-staying power.

“An APC candidate coming from Mangu where the incumbent hails will ensure a split in the votes to forestall the incumbent from having a bloc vote as was the case in 2023.

“Significant Economic Contribution:

Beyond politics, Mangu is a vital economic engine for the state. As a hub for agriculture, commerce, and human capital development, its progress is intrinsically linked to the prosperity of Plateau State.

“Placing the governorship within this LGA would ensure its economic potential is fully recognized and integrated into the state’s development agenda”.

Consequent upon the above, the Forum resolves to formally endorse the zoning of the APC 2027 governorship ticket to Mangu Local Government Area and urged the National and State leadership of the APC, as well as all party elders and stakeholders, to adopt this zoning arrangement for the stability and success of the party in 2027.

The Forum further Called upon all political parties across Plateau State to recognize the merit in the call and to support credible gubernatorial candidates from Mangu LGA, and tasked sons and daughters from Mangu LGA, particularly within the APC, to commence immediate mobilization, unite behind a common purpose, and begin the process of projecting credible, capable, and unifying candidates for the gubernatorial elections.

The Forum of Former APC LGA Secretaries (2014-2021) is a body that comprised of past Local Government Area Secretaries of the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State.

The Forum serves as a consultative and advisory body dedicated to the party’s growth, internal democracy, and electoral success at all levels.
