The Radio Nigeria facility, located on Plot No. 35, Ikoyi Road, Lagos, experienced a fire outbreak late Wednesday night, causing widespread concern and prompting swift action from emergency responders.
Although the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown, emergency teams launched an immediate investigation into the incident. Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, disclosed in a statement early Thursday that their team received a distress call around 5:30 PM.
Firefighters from the Dolphin, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Onitolo Fire Stations quickly arrived at the scene to tackle the fire, which had engulfed the building’s studio section. Efforts to completely extinguish the flames and assess the extent of the damage were ongoing at the time of the report.
Adeseye assured the public that the combined efforts of the Federal Fire Service, the Nigerian Police, and other emergency agencies successfully contained the fire to the studio area of the U-shaped one-story structure. No casualties were reported, and operations to eliminate remaining hotspots continued.
This incident comes just weeks after a major fire devastated three radio stations in Aba, Abia State. The affected stations—Enyimba 94.3 FM, Rose 101.9 FM, and Legend 98.3 FM—were housed in the same building along the PZ axis of Aba-Owerri Road in Aba North local government area.
The fire reportedly began in the television section of Enyimba TV and Radio Limited, the parent company of the three stations, before spreading rapidly. Despite efforts by the Abia State Fire Service to contain the fire, all broadcasting equipment was destroyed. Fortunately, no lives were lost.
In a statement, Enyimba TV and Radio Limited confirmed an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the fire. Operations across the three stations were temporarily suspended to assess damages and implement safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
