Drama As Kano Resident Storms Mosque, Slaps Imam During Morning Prayers

A resident of Kano State, Nasiru Mukhtar, has been ordered by the State Shariah Court at Kofar Kudu to remain in custody following allegations of assaulting Imam Malam Murtala Sulaiman during early morning prayers at a mosque in Tudunwada.

The incident reportedly took place on October 22, 2024, around 5 a.m., when Mukhtar allegedly entered the mosque, grabbed the Imam by the neck, slapped him several times, tore his clothing, and seized his microphone.

The Imam subsequently filed a complaint with the state police command, leading to Mukhtar’s arrest. During the court session, Mukhtar’s defense counsel sought bail, arguing that additional investigation was necessary.

However, presiding Judge Malam Isah Rabi’u Gaya ordered a psychiatric evaluation to determine the accused’s mental condition and scheduled the case for further hearing on November 22, 2024, while Mukhtar remains detained.
