The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on his supporters to remain peaceful and avoid any form of violence following the deployment of security operatives at his palace on Friday.
The heavily armed personnel, including armoured personnel carriers (APCs), prevented the Emir from attending a royal ceremony in Bichi Local Government Area.
The Emir had been scheduled to lead the presentation of the staff of office to a newly appointed district head in Bichi and to accompany the new Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to his district posting. However, the blockade at the palace gates raised tensions among his supporters.
Emir Sanusi’s Message
Delivering a sermon at the Emirate’s Jummaat Mosque, the Emir warned against acts of violence, emphasizing the need for patience and unity.
“I warn you against falling into the traps of the enemies of Kano, who want to see Kano on fire. They always want to see killings, destruction of public properties, and maiming of innocent lives.”
The former Central Bank Governor stressed the importance of patience in the face of provocation and the Islamic principle of peaceful coexistence:
“Living peacefully with one another, no matter the provocation, is far better than violence. Islam admonishes you to be patient at any given time, whether in a difficult situation or at peace.”
Sanusi urged his supporters to reject violence, stating that it leads to uncertainty and hardship, where “everyone loses out.”
This incident follows recent shifts in Kano’s traditional leadership, which have heightened tensions.
