The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) internal results.
The announcement was made by NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, during a briefing on Thursday, September 19, in Minna.
Wushishi revealed that 21 supervisors from 12 states were blacklisted, and one school in Ekiti State was de-recognized due to mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject.
The supervisors were sanctioned for offenses such as poor supervision, aiding malpractice, abscondment, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence.
A breakdown of the results shows that 1,367,736 candidates sat for the exam, with 702,112 males and 665,624 females.
Of these candidates, 828,284 (60.55%) obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, while 1,147,597 (83.90%) obtained five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics.
Wushishi noted a significant reduction in examination malpractice this year, with 8,437 cases in 2024 compared to 12,030 in 2023, a decrease of 30.1%. Additionally, 40 schools across 17 states were found to have engaged in mass cheating and will face sanctions after discussions with the Council.
