President Bola Tinubu took charge of the Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This marks the fifth meeting since January this year.
Among those in attendance were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, ministers, and heads of parastatals.
Plateau News has reported that the meeting is anticipated to yield significant decisions aimed at addressing some of the country’s challenges.
Before the commencement of the meeting, the council observed a minute of silence in memory of two former cabinet members who have passed away.
Prof. Fabian Osuji, who served as Minister of Education from July 2003 to March 2005 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, passed away on February 28, 2024. Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, who served as Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, passed away on April 11, 2024, at the age of 72.
President Tinubu also administered the swearing-in ceremony for two commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC).
The newly sworn-in commissioners are Mr. Fasuwa Johnson from Ogun State and Dr. Amid Tadese Raheem from Osun State.
This follows the appointment of 20 federal commissioners to the commission on November 8, 2023, with nine of them being reappointed for a second term. Earlier, 17 commissioners were sworn in on March 14.
