Renowned Nigerian singer and presenter, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has openly criticized Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), following the pastor’s recent public apology regarding tithing.
Pastor Adeboye’s name has been trending on social media after he apologized for a sermon he gave many years ago, in which he claimed that people who do not pay tithe would not make it to heaven.
Adeboye made this apology during the RCCG’s International Youth Convention (IYC) at the Redemption City of God in Mowe, Ogun State.
“I’m apologizing for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you won’t make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible.
What the Bible says is, ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God,’” Adeboye clarified.
The apology has sparked mixed reactions both on and off social media.
Charly Boy responded through his social media, expressing that Adeboye’s apology holds no value unless he returns the tithes he has collected over the years. He accused the pastor of misleading his congregation with false doctrines.
“I truly believe that a lot of the fakest people are found in churches, my opinion, not yours. Your apology doesn’t mean anything unless you promise to return the tithe money you collected from the mumu people who thought they could bribe their way to heaven.
“Stop giving your congregation ridiculous ‘Lamba.’ Sometimes the nicest people you meet may have bodies covered in tattoos, while the most bitter, judgmental, envious, and wicked people all go to church on Sundays. Since your announcement decades ago that people should throw away their TVs, I’ve always known that your way wasn’t pure, for someone who claims to ‘drink tea with God.’
“There’s nothing worse than a fault-finding, finger-pointing pastor who is as fake as the bling of a wanna-be artist. Apology? When you know exactly what you’re doing. Nonsense, Dia Fathers,” Charly Boy concluded.
